Investigating some of theories respecting ideology, the current research stipulates that, under the influence of structuralist and pragmatist approaches in social sciences, the definition of ideology has resulted in a functional definition of religion. The functionalist definitions are dependent on a theoretical view which tries to explain beliefs on the basis of a functional role. Therefore, ideology may be taken either as religion or as any value system with functional aspects.  However, flying in the face of those approaches which mainly underline functions of religion, the symbolic cultural approach adopts an interpretative and spiritualistic method and states that each society can hold its particular cultural patterns which are possibly religious, scientific or ideological. Spiritualistic approaches, too, fail to uncover the realities of religion but they arrive at a deeper understanding of religious beliefs of peoples by discovering and interpreting the cultural patterns of societies.  در حوزه اندیشه اجتماعی، اندیشمندان بسیاری ایدئولوژی را به عنوان نظام ایده‌ها یا باورها و عقاید جوامع در رابطه با دین وفرهنگ تحلیل کرده‌اند. این پژوهش با بررسی برخی نظریات درباره ایدئولوژی به این موضوع می‌پردازد که تعریف ایدئولوژی تحت تأثیر رویکردهای ساختارگرایانه و کارکردگرایانه در علوم اجتماعی منجر به تعریف کارکردی از دین شده است. تعریف‌های کارکردگرایانه به چشم اندازی نظری وابسته‌اند که در صدد تبیین باورها بر مبنای نقشی کارکردی است. بنابراین، یا دین را مساوی ایدئولوژی گرفته‌اند یا هر گونه نظام ارزشی و باورداشتی را که چنین جنبه‌های کارکردی‌ای دارند در این مقوله جای می‌دهند. اما برخلاف رویکردهایی که عمدتاً بر کارکردهای دین تأکید دارند، رویکرد فرهنگی نمادین به شیوه‌ای تفسیری و معناگرا بیان می‌کند که هر جامعه‌ای می‌تواند الگوهای فرهنگی خاص خود را داشته باشد که ممکن است دینی، علمی یا ایدئولوژیک باشد. رویکردهای معناگرا نیز کاشف از حقایق دین نیستند اما می‌توانند با کشف و تفسیر الگوهای فرهنگی به درک عمیق‌تری از باورهای مذهبی مردم دست یابند. https://raj.smc.ac.ir/article_34640_7e25dde4a60b2f3c7425e5df88815c30.pdf
