The present study, adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, in presenting its final definition of the human being, goes beyond the classical and well-known definition of “rational animal” as well as the more advanced notion of “Divine Living Being” and considers the definition of “Servant Living Being” as a step further and more precise than the latter. For the mere articulation of a divinized life does not in itself signify the true station of humanity; rather, it is the practical submission arising from human will before the Source of Perfections, and man’s servitude in the realm of worldly life, that constitutes the final definition of the human being.The authors of this article maintain that only on the basis of this definition can the human sciences guide the human being toward his ultimate end, while at the same time securing his worldly well-being and felicity in accordance with his servitudinal journey. This, however, is conditional upon their attentiveness to the stages of human life and the needs corresponding to them, and the acceptance of the principles and foundations of divine law as their essential framework, along with the adoption of a return-to-principles approach in addressing the concrete issues arising in social life. از جمله مسائل مهم در مطالعات علوم انسانی، مبتنی‌بودن این علوم بر فلسفه‌های غیرالاهی و مادی است که بنای آن‌ها بر نوعی حیوان‌انگاشتن انسان و در نتیجه مسئول نپنداشتن او در برابر خداوند متعال است. نگاشتهٔ حاضر با رویکرد توصیفی‌تحلیلی، در بیان تعریف نهایی خود از انسان، با عبور از تعریف کهن و مشهور «حیوان ناطق» و نیز تعریف مترقی «حی متأله» به مثابۀ نظریه‌ای جایگزین، تعریف «حی عبد» را گامی جلوتر و دقیق‌تر از نظریۀ اخیر می‌داند؛ زیرا بیان صِرف حیات متألهانه، نشانگر مقام انسانیت نیست، بلکه خضوع عملی برخاسته از ارادۀ انسان در برابر مبدأ کمالات، و عبودیت او در نشئۀ حیات دنیا، تعریف نهایی انسان را شکل می‌دهد. نگارندگان این مقاله معتقدند صرفاً مبتنی بر این تعریف، علوم انسانی قادر خواهند بود انسان را به غایت نهایی‌اش برسانند و در عین حال آسایش و سعادت دنیوی او را متناسب با حرکت عبودی‌اش تأمین کنند، البته به شرط اینکه به مراتب حیات انسان و نیازهای متناسب با آن توجه کنند و اصول و مبانی شریعت الاهی را به عنوان شاکلۀ اصلی خویش بپذیرند و برای حل مسائل عینی، که در حیات اجتماعی رخ می‌دهد، رویکرد بازگشت به آن اصول را در پیش گیرند.
