<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif;">What are the similarities and differences between artificial models of intelligence and computing and human cognitive perceptions? This is a question worthy of serious reflection. This article explains that information processing in computers, artificial intelligence, and also the human brain takes place through electrical codings and formal processing, rather than semantic processing. Moreover, artificial intelligence and the human brain, in themselves, lack self-awareness. However, our phenomenal experience testifies to the existence of self-awareness, the perception of meaning and concept, as well as free will. These experiences cannot be explained on the basis of brain function. Therefore, the dualists’ view, which holds that humans possess a realm called the human soul, is realistic. Quantum entanglement in the subatomic particles of the brain, which has been proposed to explain the unity of consciousness, is insufficient for two reasons: First, the conditions for quantum entanglement are not present in the brain Second, mental activities are diverse and contrary to the requirements of quantum entanglement. However, based on the theologians’ theory, if the human soul is regarded as a subtle body, the possibility of quantum entanglement in its fundamental particles exists. On the other hand, mental information processes that occur in the brain and have more or less known mechanisms should not be attributed to the human soul, so that no undue grounds for denying the human soul may arise. The mind is distinct from the human soul and is the higher function of the brain, while the human soul should be regarded as the user of the brain and the mind, giving meaning to the mind and serving as the source of the phenomenon of self-awareness. Moreover, will and free choice should not be conflated, since will can be realized due to deterministic causes. The mind is the source of will, whereas the human soul is the source of free choice.</span>
