Man plays a fundamental role in the formation and continuation of civilization, and explaining the characteristics of civilization-building man is one of the important issues in civilization studies. This research aims to comparative analyze the characteristics of “civilizing man” in the thought of Ibn Khaldun and Miskawayh and to examine the relationship between man, culture, and civilization. The main question of the research is what characteristics does civilization-building man have in the thought of these two thinkers, and what role does each of them attribute to man in the formation and continuation of civilization? The research was conducted with a qualitative approach and thematic content analysis method with a comparative approach, and the data were collected through the study of the main works of Ibn Khaldun and Miskawayh and analyzed in three stages of open, axial, and selective coding. The research findings show that Ibn Khaldun analyzes man mainly in a social and historical context and in relation to development, cooperation, division of labor, subsistence wisdom, group bonds, and political power; While Miskawayh emphasizes the rational, moral and educational dimensions of man and the role of reason, moral virtues, justice and cooperation in realizing a desirable society. Accordingly, the main difference between the two thinkers is not in the level of attention to man, but in the level of analysis and the type of explanation they give of the process of civilization. The comparative findings of the research, in the form of an analytical model, show six social-human, rational, social-political, moral, spiritual-value and economic-practical dimensions to explain the concept of a civilizing man. Based on this model, civilization is not the product of a single factor, but rather the result of the interaction of human, social, rational, moral and practical capacities in a historical and cultural context.
