Freedom is one of the most fundamental human rights and needs that both Islam and Western schools have valued and is at the forefront of human needs. However, Islamic and Western thought do not have the same view of this category, and the principle of freedom has a different educational application in terms of definition, nature, goals, and dimensions in these two thoughts. The purpose of this research is a comparative study of the educational application of the principle of freedom in the basic areas of Islamic progress and modern development. This research, with an analytico-comparative method and using library data, showed that the application of freedom in Islamic progress consists of the value of man and the possibility of his education, growth, and exaltation. In addition, this anthropological principle also proves the moral and civil responsibility of man in society. While liberal freedom has devalued the concept of humanity and the lack of assumption of human dignity in modernism, and has changed the concept of spirituality as the most important aspect of character and morality, and in the area of action and behavior, it has also caused the economy to be free from any moral and human constraints. By comparing the educational application of the principle of freedom in various areas of Islamic progress and modern development, it can be concluded that the modern world has not been able to bring happiness in both this world and the hereafter for humans, while the theory of Islamic progress, which is derived from the religious foundations and theoretical principles of Islam, is in line with the education and elevation of humans and the realization of a good life and ensuring a happy and enjoyable life in this world and the hereafter for humans.
